Literature Text

Believe it or not Tony had two floors made especially for parties. One was a bar with a sitting area and the other was more or less a ballroom. You and Natasha decided to (perhaps against your better judgement) find Tony. You were in the elevator making your way down to the floor with the bar knowing that's where Tony would surely be. You were right as you found him leaning against the bar drink in hand talking with Pepper. You and Natasha sauntered over next to Tony. He glanced at you and then did a double take.

"Woah what happened?"

Pepper hit him on the arm. "Tony! You guys look wonderful" She said gesturing to your dresses.

"Yes indeed. You're welcome" He said annoyed.

You smiled. "Thank you Tony"

He softened his expression. "My pleasure" He smiled back.

Clint, Thor, and Bruce joined you all dressed finely in their suits. You peered behind them hoping to see Steve but he wasn't there. You huffed to yourself. Where was he?

Natasha leaned into you. "Go find him"

You blushed. "Are you sure? I don't want to leave you"

She laughed. "No I'm sure. Go"

You nodded and slipped away before any of the guys noticed. You weaved in and out of the people looking for Steve's familiar face, but he was no where in sight. You decided to check the ballroom next. You doubted Steve would be there, he wasn't much of a partier, but neither were you. It wouldn't hurt to look though. You stepped out on the floor and found dancers twirling across the floor with dresses flowing gracefully beneath them. It was a nice sight but not the one you were looking for. You glanced around the ballroom many times but it was futile, he wasn't there. Maybe he had decided not to come, or maybe he was avoiding you. No, what reason would he have for that? You sighed and walked to the corner of the ballroom behind some bookshelves. Hiding sounded like a good option. You leaned against the wall closing your eyes and sighed.

"Not much of a party person either?"

Your eyes shot open and turned to the figure next to you. "Steve?"

"Ma'am" He smiled.

He looked amazing dressed in a suit with a blue tie that coincidentally matched your dress.

"You look great...I mean....well yeah" You sighed.

Great what had you just done. He smiled blushing lightly. "You too"

You smiled turning your gaze from him to the floor to hide your blush. It was silent before Steve spoke up.

"So you're not much of a party person?"

"Oh right you asked me that earlier. Sorry. And no. Not really"

He laughed. "Me either. But maybe that's because I'm old fashioned"

You shook your head. "Then I guess I am too"

He turned his gaze and smiled as he studied you. But you weren't looking at him, you were watching the dancers. You finally turned to look at him and he turned away. You half smiled to yourself. Was he actually looking at you? You were beginning to freak out but Steve cleared his throat.

"Uh Y/n, would you care to dance?"

Your eyes widened. This was huge. Steve didn't just ask girls to dance. He was always waiting for 'the right partner'.  You wanted to so bad except for one problem.

"Oh Steve I'd love to but.."

"What is it?"

You sighed. "I can't dance. No ones ever asked me to dance before. I don't know how" How embarrassing.

He smiled at you. "I've never actually danced with anyone either" He extended his hand to you "Come on we'll figure it out together"

His smile was just so reassuring and warm that you couldn't say no. In reply you took his hand. You were shaking but he didn't seem to notice as he led you to the dance floor. You blushed as he put his hand on your waist. Your hand slid up to his shoulder and he took your other one in his. You'd never had a man hold you like this before. It was nice. If Steve didn't have a steady hold on you, you'd probably melt. Just as you were about to dance the music changed abruptly mid-song. It was no longer the newest slow pop ballad but instead the smooth voice of Frank Sinatra. You glanced over Steve's shoulder to see Tony standing there with a smirk and a thumbs up. You felt your stomach flip. You had hoped Tony would leave you alone.

"This song came out when I turned eighteen" You looked up at Steve who seemed to be lost in a memory.

"Wish I could've been there" You said softly.

He looked down at you. "Right now you are"

With that he gently began to guide you across the floor with ease.

"I thought you said you didn't know how to dance"

He smiled. "Same to you"

You laughed. "You're the one making it easy"

He shook his head. "It's all in the partner"

You blushed. "So I'm really the only girl you've ever danced with?"

He shrugged. "Well I wasn't exactly what the girls were looking for back then"

"Well they surely missed out"

He scoffed. "No, I was very small and....."

"I saw. It was in your file. And honestly you were just as handsome are you are now"

His eyes lit up at your comment. Peggy was the only one to ever give him a second glance as 'a little guy' and you'd  just done the same.

"That means a lot to me"

You smiled. "I mean it"

You both fell silent and let the music swell around you. Surprisingly you weren't that bad at dancing. You didn't want the song to end but as Frank held out the last note, Steve stopped.

"We should really catch up with the others"

You nodded breaking out of your trance. Steve offered you his arm and you looped yours in it gladly. You noticed Tony still standing off to the side and he started to walk toward you and Steve.

"Hey Rogers what've you been up to?"

He looked over at Tony. "Nothing. What about you?"

"Just watching the dancers"

Steve nodded and looked over at you and you shrugged. The rest of the evening you spent talking with Steve away from the party. It was around 3:00 in the morning when the party guests finally cleared out. You were all laying sprawled out on the couches on the bar floor. Tony surprisingly wasn't drunk and still had a drink in his hand.

"Told you it was going to be a great night" He said taking another sip of his drink.

Bruce pushed himself off the couch and toward the elevator. "I'm exhausted, see you all in the morning"

"I shall rest my head as well" Thor called jumping up off the couch and following Bruce to the elevator.

You looked over at Natasha. "I'm exhausted too. Besides this will be my first night back in my bed"

She nodded "I think I'll join you"

You both got up off the couch and stumbled toward the elevator.

"You coming Rogers?" Natasha called over her shoulder.

Steve cleared his throat and got up to join you and Natasha.

"Oh come on" Tony called. "The party has just begun the night is still young"

"Night Tony" You said filing into the elevator.

"Clint and I are gonna have all the fun you're missing out" He yelled as a last ditch effort watching the elevator doors close on the three of you.

Natasha's floor was the first stop and she got off quickly.

"Night Nat" You said giving her a tight hug.

"Night Y/n" She said flipping the red locks over her shoulder and stepping on her floor.

The doors slid shut just leaving you and Steve alone. "Thanks for the dance" You blurted out.

He smiled. "My pleasure ma'am. You know for the first time in a while I enjoyed myself"

You smiled glancing down at the floor. The elevator dinged signaling it was your time to get off. You turned to Steve. "Goodnight Steve" You said wrapping your arms around his torso.

His arms in return wrapped around your body leaving you enveloped in warmth.

"Goodnight" He whispered into your hair. You got off the elevator and clumsily wandered to your room stripping off you dress and into your pajamas. Your head barely managed to hit the pillow and you were out cold.

The knife dug into you arm as you screamed in agony.

'Where is Captain America?'

The voice demanded driving the knife deeper into your tender flesh. Tears were streaming down your face as the pain intensified in you arm. '

Where is he?'

The voice yelled again even louder than the last time. Growing impatient the man raised his gun to your head. You tried to scream but no noise came out. You tried to move but you were frozen. Just then someone burst through the door. It was Steve. The man wasted no time in putting three bullets through Steve's chest and he crumpled to the floor. All you could do was scream and watch. The man turned back to you knife raised ready to strike again.

To be continued......

Oh, I adore Frank Sinatra! Tell me, did you have a particular song of his in mind for this part?

Also, I really enjoy this story. I've been reading it s quickly and I apologize for not taking the time to comment. I especially am a fan of how you kept it going even after the rescue. Lots of stories just a end it there with a nice bow on top but you are carrying it through--kudos!

AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! I hope that last scene is just a nightmare, holy moly!!!
