You pushed through the large glass door out onto the busy streets of New York. "So I heard you're the new Avenger" You turned around to face Maria and laughed. "I'm hardly that" You smiled "I have only you to thank" You said as you gave Maria a hug. "Hey I told you, you're perfect for the job" You smiled again as you and Maria hopped into a cab to take you home. After Maria had gotten dropped off at the S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters you headed home to begin packing your stuff and dig into the files.

You walked up the stairs to your apartment. Unlocking your door you set your stuff down inside. It was already 9:00 and you had a ton to do. You sighed. It was going to be a long night. You decided to use the little energy you had left to pack first. It didn't take as long as you thought since it was mostly just clothes and random stuff here and there. You wouldn't be needing furniture where you were going so you told the landlord to sell it with the apartment. You finally finished packing and you were exhausted. You looked over at the clock to see that it was 2:00 am. You walked over to the couch and grabbed the files. You would read them as quickly as possible and then get some sleep.

First on the top was Natasha. Russian spy assassin  turned good. She was originally ordered to be killed by S.H.I.E.L.D and the assassin was none other than Clint. He made a different call and brought her back to S.H.I.E.L.D. That brought you to Clint's file. He was a master assassin with his bow. He had been possessed by Loki during the attack on New York. That brought you to Thor, Loki's brother. He was a God from Asgard. He had his hammer and had only recently joined the Avengers during the attack on New York. Under his file was Bruce's. Bruce was a genius and a doctor. He was a wiz with gamma radiation. He had tried to recreate the serum that Dr. Erskine had invented for Steve but it didn't really go his way. That's how he became the Hulk. Next was Tony. Tony was Iron Man and a mechanical genius. He had the arc reactor placed inside his chest not just for show or armor, but to save his life. Tony actually had a fairly rough life and he indeed was an alcoholic which didn't surprise you but you did understand.

Last was Steve. He had the thickest file of them all. You opened it slowly to reveal a picture of him pre-serum. He was still handsome even though he was small. You continued to flip through, finding files on the experiment and his battles with HYDRA agents. You read every report on him up until the day he crashed into the ice. You then came to files on Peggy Carter. Steve's old love. You found files on Howard Stark, Tony's father and all of the Howlowing Commandos. Then you came to Bucky's. Steve's best friend turned HYDRA weapon. He was still alive as well because he was preserved for HYDRA's personal use. You then found the more modern missions such as the attack on New York as well as the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. You finally came to the last paper in the file. Steve's latest medical report. He wasn't sleeping and was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. You sighed as a tear rolled down your cheek. Poor Steve. He lost everything, Peggy, all his old friends, even Bucky. They were all gone, and on top of that he was stuck in a different era. He must feel so alone. You continued to pour over his file for hours not being able to put it down. You kept rereading all the reports and even turned to the internet for more research. That's when you glanced at the time in the corner of the computer screen. Holy crap! It was 6:00 am. You had been reading files for over 4 hours and you had to get up in an hour. You dragged yourself into your empty room and flopped on the bare bed still in your clothes.

You awoke with a start to your alarm and turned it off. Despite the fact that you had only gotten an hour of sleep it wasn't hard to get up. You had stuff to do. You pushed yourself up off the bed and fixed yourself up a bit as well as changing your clothes. As you were packing away the last of your things you got a text from Pepper. It read: 'Morning Y/n, I sent a car to pick you up he should be there any minute. I'll see you soon' You grabbed the first two boxes and headed down the elevator. The large black escalade in front of your building could only have been for you. A man got out and took your boxes from you putting them in the trunk as you went up to retrieve the rest of your things. The last thing you grabbed were the files which you safely tucked away in your bag. You got in the car and drove off from your apartment to your new life.

As you pulled up in front of the Avengers tower you hopped out and began to unload your things. The man helped you set all of your boxes in the lobby but had to bid you farewell due to pressing S.H.I.E.L.D matters. You grabbed you first box and headed for the elevator. You got in and as the doors shut "Miss Y/n. They told me you would be coming" You jumped. "Um hello?" "Yes hello." You looked around. Where on earth was that voice coming from and who was it? "Um who are you? And where are you?" "I'm JARVIS Miss Y/n. I'm Mr. Stark's personal computerized butler." "Oh well nice to meet you" You replied. "Indeed. You're on floor 5 Miss Y/n would you like to me to take you there?" "Oh yes please, thank you" The elevator took off and as it reached your floor the doors slid open to reveal your new home. "Thank you JARVIS." "My pleasure Miss Y/n . If you need anything just call" "Thanks" You said as you stepped inside.

The space was beautifully decorated with a few couches, a small kitchen with a counter, and a t.v that wasn't nearly as large as the one in the common room. You set your boxes down on the floor and made your way down the hall to your bedroom with its connecting bathroom. It was amazing. Like no where you'd ever lived before. The entire floor was surrounded by glass windows with a breathtaking view of New York. While you were admiring and exploring your new living space you realized the rest of your boxes were still in the lobby. You sighed. You made you way back to the elevator only to find the boxes stacked neatly with your other ones. You looked around. "Uh JARVIS?" "Yes Miss Y/n" "Who brought thes.." The elevator doors slid open and Pepper walked. "Oh hi Pepper" Guess you wouldn't get to find out you brought those boxes up until later.

"I've got news" Pepper said. Uh oh. That was never a good start to a conversation. "Maria and I had a conversation with Fury this morning and Maria told him how skilled you are, and he thinks you should join the Avengers" Your eyes widened and you were speechless. "He said you could head over to S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters tomorrow morning for your examination" You couldn't say anything so you just continued to stare blankly at Pepper. "He thought it would be a good idea considering you're already going to be working with the Avengers. You've got the skills so why not help out on missions" "Wow" You finally managed to breathe out. "I know isn't it exciting? Anyway I'm assuming you met JARVIS." "Yeah I did" "Cool isn't he? He can do almost anything. He's very useful. So is everything good here on your floor?" "Oh yes, it's perfect." You smiled. "Good" she said. "Well I've got to get going. I'm jetting out to Washington tonight. I just wanted to make sure you were all good and to wish you luck on your exam tomorrow" "Thanks, everything's good" "Alright, well I'll see you when I get back" She said as she headed for the elevator. "Oh and text me if you need anything" "I will. Bye. Have a safe flight" You called as the doors slid shut.

That's when panic set in. Fury wanted you to be an Avenger. You! You weren't that great. I mean yeah you could certainly hold your own in a fight and knew for the most part how to shoot a gun but you were not nearly as skilled as the Avengers. What were they going to have you do for the exam and could you handle it? You decided you had to prepare. The only thing was where? You put on some more comfortable clothes and headed toward the elevator. "Hey JARVIS" "Yes Miss Y/n ?" "Can you tell me where the nearest gym is?" "Yes Miss Y/n. It's in the basement" "Oh. Wow. This place has got everything doesn't it" "Indeed. Would you like me to take you there?" "Yes please" You said as you walked into the elevator.

"Thanks JARVIS" You said as you walked out of the elevator into what looked like a 1940's gym. It was old but maybe it was just that basementy feel. You continued deeper in and saw rows of punching bags, an archery range, knife throwing, shooting range, and every type of exercise equipment you could imagine. This was perfect. You did all sorts of things, practicing every skill you had to offer as well as trying some new ones. The last thing you remember was sitting down to tie your shoe and.......nothing.

To be continued......
This is the second part in a series that I hope to continue for awhile. I hope you like it. Feel free to leave comments to let me know how I'm doing. :)
